Batter Boards are made of vertical stakes and horizontal 2×4’s or 1×4’s. The horizontal pieces are installed at an elevation that will be equal to the finished floor elevation of the foundation. They serve as something to attach the strings that will be the outline of the house. String lines are put up in order to provide a guideline to place the forms, so the house will be square at all outside and inside corners.
